I do not claim to be very educated in the liberal arts and sciences, in fact I play down any education I may have picked up over the years in my BS and MBA or “reading” books as I do. I recently chanced upon a blog not unlike my own where the “author” was reviewing movies and it occurred to me his distasteful that was to me. I suppose this comes from a realization no that long ago that movies cannot do anything in 2 hours that an author can do on the unlimited “pages” of a book.

Anyway Les Misérables is a recent best book that I was fortunate enough to read. I always wondered how a book could become a play and after reading Les Mis I am preplexed how an audience could enjoy such a play.

It really enjoyed the book for the story of Jean Valjean. It reminds me of myself in the way that you can be such a miserable wretch of a person and still try to do what is right and make your world a better place at least for others. He had Corsette and I have my family. Now I am certainly not a convict – I have never been to jail mind you, but Jean Valjean was sent to jail for stealing bread for his family. Actually the family of his sister. It was something he needed to do or at least he felt he needed to do it I guess. He rose up from jail and succeeded in saving a life or two and making one for himself. He had the chance to help others and did regularly. He was repaid by some and knocked down once again by others. In the end he got what he deserved – a good life for Corsette.

Despite the many attempts of others he succeeds in doing the right thing and even putting up with a bit of shame when it comes his way. It is an inspiring story. Probably made a good movie and a great play too.

Getting back on track. Jason has been away from a while and he explains what he means to get back on track and working on the site again.

It has been MONTHS since I last posted about my 3-week vacation. In that time the wife and I have taken the time to trim the websites we work on and add a couple more. This post is more about getting back on track. Much of what we do relies on the Internet and our websites and the revenue that these generate. We have had more failures than successes and that is ok as long as we keep doing what we are doing and enjoy it.

So I am back on track. I have an obligation to myself to post twice per week to the following places:

http://www.rvgadgets.net – anything rv, anything that is a gadget.
http://www.kidsiphoneappreview.com – apps for kids we review them
http://huberblog.com – personal stuff including stuff about the websites.
http://slxtraining.net – for work
http://www.modifiedpowerwheels.com — mpw needs a new homepage for sure.
http://www.modifiedelectricscooters.com — needs a new homepage too.

So how long does a post take? About an hour each. This means about 8 hours of work per month. How much can a site like that make? a few hundred a month. I guess it CAN make more, but really it will probably pull in a few hundred a month. Is it worth it? Sure. Add it up. How much are you paid per hour? Look it is something that we like to do and it comes easy to us. It just takes time away from the family in front of a computer. If you think I do not have enough time in front of a computer you are mistaken

Being greedy can be good and forgivable. If you think of every single person you meet as someone that can teach you something then be greedy and soak it up.

I meet a lot of people. Some challenge my pride or authority. It happened in class just the other day. My comment was: “You may have gotten that dig in, but that is it” or something similar.

Something similar happened in my last CIS 407 class. We have a few students in there that are challenging, but man are they smart and exciting. In this case I made a comment about how C# is great. Yes it is! but who hates vb.net – several of the students in question had reasons why they disliked vb.net. Sure.

As the class went on I ended up in vb.net and needed to convert some types. It took a bit to remember how to do it. Comments were made. And we moved on.

The point is. I have the opportunity to learn from many students over the years and I have. I have student right now that challenge me in almost every class. I take it to heart and it has made me a better teacher today and over the past 8 years.

Do you learn something from everyone you meet? Lets talk about it some more.

You can learn what NOT to do. You can learn what to do. You can learn a skill such as programming or how to handle a situation. You can also learn how NOT to handle a situation. Swallow your pride and learn what you can from everyone you meet. Dont judge anyone, but dont accept their habits either.

You might have noticed I stopped signing emails with Prof. Huber. My name is Jason
