Making Money

When I was starting a few of my sites I had the temptation to add pop-ups and link ads and all sorts of stuff to my site to generate revenue. You want to earn as much revenue from your visitors as you can right? Sure. You have costs to pay after all. What are the costs associated with a website?

1. Hosting. Somewhere between $7 and $100 a month

That’s it?

That is it. What about programming costs and upkeep and all of that? We could include those, but generally the sites “run themselves” and you are the owner so why do you think you should get paid? You shouldn’t. Your time is the gamble.

What about building the site?

You either know how to build the site now or you will shortly. That is how I look at it. Figure it out. You cannot afford to pay someone to build a site that will make pennies in month one and ramp up to dollars by the end of the year. If you do not have the chops, then you will fail. Guess what? Not trying is failing too.

Where to start?

Domain Sale! $7.49* .com at GoDaddy.com simple as that. I mean really. Buy the domain at GoDaddy.com and you are set!

Next you need hosting:
New – Unlimited Hosting at GoDaddy.com! Yep. GoDaddy.com again.

You just need to pay about $20 a year for the domain (after private registration) and another $8 or so for hosting. Simple as that.

What about the website content?

After you pay GoDaddy.com you will receive a bunch of emails. Login into the site those emails point you to and then you can install applications. I suggest wordpress, but really drupal and joomla are good too. This is where the learning and patience pay off.

Buy some books and get started. It is up to you!
is a good one.
