Steve Nitsch
When I was back in Minot studying martial arts under Charlie Ward of Amrajutsu, I met a guy named Steve Nitsch. He was an interesting character and in Minot had made a name for himself – sometimes not in the best way. For a kid of 15 he was just a cool guy with a cool lifestyle and overall just living the life. He had a laid back attitude that made it seem like that is where you wanted to be when you got older. I was wrong, but my story needs a point.
Steve was pretty good at Amrajutsu. He got it. He knew the art well and performed it in a way that was impressive. He would be in class before it started practicing and it was impressive to watch at times. He was working harder than anyone else and was at a higher rank, so he knew more – and he was good at it.
While he practiced he would listen to music. One particular tape he had (yes tape) was from the band that sang “She’s my Cherry Pie” – Warrant or some other 80 hair band as I recall. Now that I think about it – Steve would have been a member if born a bit earlier or at least a roadie. Warrant also covered “We will Rock You”. The impression lasted and I owned every Queen album I could get a hold of after that point (on tape).
Thanks Steve. You introduced me to many bad things as well as Queen – which is arguably good and Freddie Mercury – one of the best rock vocalists of all time. You are probably dead now or something or perhaps you are bald, 45 and living in Oregon in a trailer. I don’t know, but thanks.

Hey, I know Steve! He DOES live in Oregon! HA HA… (or at least works there.) Did you hang out with him a lot? PS.. He’s alive, AND has a head full of hair! Thanks for the story!
