And I dont mean being proud of something. I mean pride. It can really stop you from learning or otherwise seeing someone else point of view.

I am certainly not immune to the pride bug. I think I have learned to overcome a lot of the things that pride cause you to do wrong. Like taking everything personally, seeing everything as an attack and overall trying to defend yourself constantly.

It just isnt healthy and many times the most proud are the most stubborn for that reason. They try and stick to their points regardless of how wrong. They have so much pride in their title that they cant listen to anyone else or perhaps it stops them from learning when someone who should be their equal or subordinate is actually trying to show them something important.

I know I saw this many times at BIG with the managers I dealt with over the years. With some changes a lot of the pride problems were gone and some of us were promoted into jobs that caused this problem to fester even more. I fell victim to it early on and then overcame it and then finally moved on!

I like to think that I havent been bitten by the pride bug since, but I know it isnt true. I think I have just been able to control the pride fever well.

So what are you doing outside your comfort zone this week? I know I have stepped out of mine and learned from it and grown.

Take a look at yourself after reading this post and think about it. Is pride preventing you from seeing what little tiny – wisdom – there might be here? I bet it is ;)
