03Nov New Lodge – interrogation
So I went to a new lodge the other day. I hadn’t been in over 7 years and had an excuse each time, but finally my classes aren’t on the same night as lodge so I went.
I had applied for plural membership at this lodge a few weeks back and wanted to get started in Masonry again. I attended dinner and planned to skip out since I wasn’t a member of the lodge and didn’t have any knowledge of the particular proceedings that night.
In any case I was asked to follow a brother for interrogation. I didn’t refuse and was soon being asked several items about Masonry that I should be able to recall. Now I had gone through an interrogation before about 7 years back. I was asked one detail of Masonry that I wouldn’t forget. But this time was different. I was being asked something from EA that I had forgotten for the most part. Not the overall meaning, just the details of how to show it.
It was embarrassing to say the least. I explained that it had been a number of years and that what I did know would certainly allow me entrance to a lodge of MM. I was asked to show this and was admitted.
I have since researched what was lost and am again in the light. I appreciate the honesty and caring of the brothers performing the interrogation as it was much less terrible that it could have been. It is a lesson for me that I can be of similar assistance in the future in a cautious manner when a rusty nail of a Mason is presented to me.
