First of all this isn’t really a tip about excel, but more a tip for you to not annoy others sharing excel documents.
Always return your focus or active cell to A1 before saving the document. Not A1 you say? Well then fine, but place it somewhere that makes sense – not necessarily on the last place you clicked.
It is just good practice to CNTRL+HOME before you save your Excel document. Why do you need to do this? You do this so that the next person opening the document is left in the middle of your last changes. I hate opening a document and being placed somewhere in the middle near HH23. Then I need to orient and CNTRL+HOME anyway.
Why doesn’t word do this to you? Well Excel is different from Word in that you may have charts or graphs that you want to emphasis. These charts or graphs could be on any worksheet or in any area of the document page itself. Normally in word you would normally just want to open on the first page. So it is just a different user experience.
If you are actually trying to emphasize a chart, then by all means place the focus there and close the document. But in most cases you aren’t trying to do this and it is just annoying.
