06Sep New router – old one died.
I should have been prepared for my Dlink I-624 router to die after reading several postings on the web about it. Just keeps disconnecting and connecting and is rather annoying. Finally this morning I woke up and couldnt connect.
I called COX and they walked me through the troubleshooting steps I already had taken but it made me realize where the problem really was. It was my router.
If your Dlink DI-624 router keep rebooting and dropping its internet connection then it is time to move on. I found a linksys WRT54G router at Fry’s for $49. I was waiting for the guy to come fix my Maytag drier, so I took a chance and ran out to get it. I was back and had it configured before he made it here.
I literraly plugged the new router in, installed my WEP key “AAAAAAAAA” and viola I was on. It was very simple. I still need to enable MAC restrictions and allow remote desktop in, but that shouldnt take long – when I get a chance.
The new router is the Linksys WRT54G. Two antennas and it seems to have a stronger signal than the old dlink but I dont get the 108 M connection. Oh well that was a bunch of junk anyway.
