War and Peace – finished

I just finished War and Peace the audio version unabridged. To be clear this was an audio book that was 64 hours long. That is over 3.5 days long.

I think it took me 4 months to listen to it on my commute. I didnt realize how long I had been listening to the book until my wife mentioned that she had heard some of it back in May on a trip to the lake.

The book was great. Very intersting. I was rarely bored or lost interest. The author has a tendency to go on and on about the theory of historical writers etc and that was a little much but he makes some good points at the same time.

It was almost a history lesson. Well there was a lot for me to learn in the book regardless of it historical accuracy or perspective. I had no idea that Russia was so sophisticated back in the 1800′s. Speaking French as most of Europe did at the time and even the United States. Moscow and St.Petersburg really came alive through the characters that lived there and loved the cities.

Of course my favorite character was Pier the Freemason. True, honest and ultimately the victor in life he has a lot that can be admired.

On to Fief Syndrom – a management book.
