This might seem a little dated, but I regularly reinstall my laptop and I end up reinstalling Mappoint along the way.

Back with Mappoint 2002 there wasn’t a problem. 2004 came a long and I cannot search addresses without an error. I enter any address and press search and Mappoint closes with a fatal exception. I tried many things along the way. Finally I found it had something to do with MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components). I tried reinstalling MDAC, installing old versions, etc. I have tried this on numerous machines over 2 years, so this isnt a new problem. It was very frustrating.

Here is what I found on the web many months ago. Leave 2002 installed and install 2004 on top. Now that takes some real space on the HDD. This can be minimized and I have tested the process.

When installing Mappoint 2002 only install minimum. Immediately insatall Mappoint 2004 and be sure to leave previous installation:

That should be it. On 2002 perform a minimum installation and in 2004 perform a full installation. I hope this helps someone during their installation. I am not sure what you would do if you dont have the previous version.
