Hardly anyone who isn’t a Baumanns knows that my wifes family is from Indonesia. Well, her father is from Indonesia but is of Dutch descent.

So he was part Indo and mostly Dutch. But Dutch by nationality and green carded here in the US. The family owned tobacco plantations in Indonesia and was very successful. My wife’s father and his Grandma were held during WWII and the occupation of Indonesia by Japan (I think).

Anyway we eat a lot of Indo food. I usually joke that it gives me endo (indigestion), but it is rather good. Her entire family is good at making the rice, egg rolls (not like you have had them), etc. Carol is now working on her Dutch Passport to continue the heritage, but I was talking about Indonesia.

Her family pays a lot of attention to Indonesia and the area and they feel quite he tie to the area. Although we aren’t certain where the family used to own land in the area we are looking to find out.

I hope we hear more about the earthquake and that everything turns out to not be that bad. At 8.7 I cant imagine anything but the worst. My wife is from L.A. and she tells me an 8.7 is rather bad. Like California falling into the ocean bad.
