I am asked regularly by coworkers, colleagues, and students “How do you make those video tutorials?” (http://www.jasncab.com/devry/cis410
Well I used to use RiverPast’s software called screenrecorder. This was about $50 if I remember correctly and it allowed me to record to any number of formats and compressions etc.
I have found that I like the MPEG4 from Microsoft that became available in screenrecorder when I installed Windows Media Encoder 9. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx
This program only allows me to record to WMV format, but it uses the same codec I was using anyway. At a very high resolution and 26fps (or so) I get about 1 Minute of video and audio to a 1 Megabyte file.
This is pretty good. Now this isn’t a quality you are going to make videos and sell online, but it is certainly good enough for tutorials and providing webcasts in.
I am fairly confident that this is the software they are using at channel9.com and at other videos in Microsoft.
Let me know what you think.
